IF: 80's
Top is a pic I took in the 80's when I lived in Japan, of little boy and his sister dressed in traditional hakama and kimono for Shichi-Go-San Day, which is celebrated the 15th of Nov. I took their piture right as they were entering the gate of the shrine with there mom. I did this watercolor of them in the 90's. Below are sketches I did during that period of time.

geisha? nice painting
ReplyDeleteyou were Japan that time?
Wonderful personal sketches. I hope you have good memories to go with them.
ReplyDeleteVery cool Michael! I know just a small amount of Japanese so I could communicate minimally with my Japanese agent. Always wanted to go but ot yet... Beautiful image and cool sketches.
ReplyDeleteAwww... That must be quite an experience. I admire their culture a lot... and I loooove sushi!
ReplyDeletevery nice micheal!!!
ReplyDeleteWonderful color palette used on the watercolor, and those futuristic sketches remind me that now, two decades later, the future is still a ways away.
ReplyDeleteNice works!! The color palette is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI like your watercolor. Never could get the hang of the medium myself.
ReplyDeleteHow interesting it must have been to have experienced the 80s on the other side of the world! Nice to have some commentary from you as well!
ReplyDeleteyou´ve created a very nice atmosphere, great!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful painting Michael!
ReplyDeleteThe guy in the sketch on the left is just too cool for the blog.
ReplyDeleteHow amazing!
ReplyDeleteAt that time, did you eat chitose-ame? (thousand-year candy)
Wonderful works. And, wonderful 80's.
It's so great to see past work. Love your piece from Japan especially.
ReplyDeleteShichi go san!! That's gret! I started short story about tht, but since I've never lived there, I was missing some really basic stuff I needed to know to make it fly. But it was a really cool concept, all the same-- how neat!
ReplyDeleteI love Japan. That's a neat piece
ReplyDeleteVery unique sketches and watercolour. Like the watercolour piece very much...
ReplyDeleteI really like that watercolor and the in the moment feel to it. Japan seems beautiful and charmed, your piece reflects, I'm with another commentor-beautiful color pallette.
ReplyDeleteI like your sketches, seems like there's a lot hidden by the use of those sunglasses.
Wonderful stuff!
Wow that's much cooler than what I was doing in the 80's! The drawing of the rap around shades-beard-vest combo is wicked. It's like the Macho man meets the Office. Awesome!
ReplyDeleteAn all round lovely composition that really draws you in - quite a think-piece (ie: definitely a work of art).
